Experiences at The International Summer School (ISS), Pune July 2005
Swati Khatri (Director of "Peruwale
Gaikwad", which was shortlisted in the top 15 at Jeevika 2004)
I must say CCS has not only encouraged me with Jeevika 2004,but as a
complete institution who believes and supports my thinking and work.
The International Summer School was yet another step of learning, which
would not have happened without CCS.
I was not aware of the summer school, and hardly knew of something like
this coming up in my own backyard. Thanks to CCS who gave me this
opportunity to experience this enriching school where learning came in a
fun filled package.
Six days, amidst participants from all over the world. Students from
countries as diverse as UK, Germany, Nigeria and Nepal kept discussing
intense issues like "globalisation and livelihood".
Different experiences brought in different views giving us a broader
perspective. Least I miss mentioning the fabulous facilitators who gave
me so much insight on the subject with a absolute fresh light. So much
food for thought. and the zeal and motivation to understand these issues
in their depths. These learnings were even further sensitized by
the film/documentary screenings. I was doubly happy, I got to to see
some rare docus and was at the same time introduced to some good docu
filmmakers through their work. Along with all these things which I
have already mentioned above and loads of fun and great new
associations, one more thing which I owe to this summer school is the
experience at my writing skill workshopes. My intention to start serious
writing has really got a thrust. I am really thankful to all who are
responsible for making me awail this experience. I surely feel much
enriched and motivated. Thanks.

Well, The International summer school was very good when compared to the
structure and content of the issues presented there! The skill workshop
provided me a good opportunity to know a lot about basics of filmmaking.
As an aftermath of our skill workshop on filmmaking we made a film on
the 5th day titled ‘Living Together’! The skill workshop was very useful
as it transcends my expectations about filmmaking!! The film we made is
about an HIV student, Isolated from friends. It is a 6-minute fiction
movie.
The workshop I attended was about peace and conflicts resolution .The
speakers were very good admirals, Ramdos and Lalita ramdas. But the
quality of content was not good! It mainly provide an insight into the
basics of peace and conflict relevant to Indo-Pak friendship and case
specific studies which were related to various African countries .We
formed a working group and debated the issues at hands and the working
group provided me an opportunity to hear various perceptions of the
issues from various parts of the world!
The voice session helped me to know about what all things happened in
other sessions. More over it is an interactive session, which introduced
me to meet all the people who attended the summer school. The open
sessions are all about fun and games, more over it was an open mike
session to all fun and complete entertainment. International night
particularly shows the cultural interaction of different kinds of people
from different nations!
Over all The ISS provided me great opportunity to meet different people
from all over the world! And I got a first hand experience of their
culture and life style. To hear their debates, arguments and their
perceptions to various issues was very informative and knowledgeable.
And truly the ISS was an international experience for me, which will
always cherish my mind!! And also am thanking the CCS for giving me this
wonderful opportunity!
