F.O.R.C.E: A Student's Initiative
Smriti Vaid
(Austrian Economics Seminar, Delhi 2005, Deshbandhu College, simsimpinkpatola@yahoo.co.in)

"We all have two hands by which we can produce a million but by joining it we can produce a zillion. So, this children's day every child should actually say a happy children's day!"

Friends Organization for the Rights of Children's Education (F.O.R.C.E), is a forum created by a group of students from Deshbandhu College for the unprivileged children, which includes children on the street, blind children, spastics children, children of prostitutes etc. FORCE is an outcome of a special yearning of a young spirit to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children. The initiative is still in its infancy stages, just about a fortnight old but the dreams are high. The caravan is getting bigger and bigger, and you are welcome to join it.

We had our first brush (yes, in the real sense) with these unfortunate children during our volunteering with them during the past few months in actual helped us to encounter with the facts and to understand the root cause. We realized that they are a huge repository of talent; they have wisdom and everything else that it takes to actualize their dreams; they also have capacity as of a child of normal circumstances. Only difficulty lies in access to the helping hand and someone to handhold.

Millions of children are devoid of their basic right of education, care and protection due to acute poverty; many of them are engaged in different occupations to make a living for the sake of family or in case of being alone to fend them. Some of them with efforts by NGOs and efforts of college students are brought back in the mainstream but
that needs to be sustained through. Hence, you can play an important role by supporting in one of the following ways.

Immediate Help
Aashray Adhikar Abhiyan, a programme of ActionAid International-India has been working with the homeless in Delhi since 2000. This year Aashray Adhikar Abhiyan (AAA) has been successful in admitting forty-one students in the formal school. It's a good beginning where government has taken step to ensure basic right to these children.
Also, it is indeed a great opportunity for these unfortunate children to get hold of their life and secure their future. But the road head seems to be tough; there is a resource crunch. And this is making it difficult for children to perform to their best. Now you can fill in the need.

Please contribute, we are looking forward for your positive response.
